Sea Turtle Rescue and Release

Coast Guard and Sea Turtle Rehabilitation personnel release 11 sea turtles back to the sea 45 miles southeast of Beaufort Inlet Tuesday. Four green turtles, four Kemp Ridley turtles, and three Loggerhead turtles were released back into their natural habitat. Representatives from Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center and North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores rode along on Coast Guard Station Fort Macon's 47-foot Motor Lifeboat to release the turtles into the Gulf Stream waters which have a constant water temperature of 70 degrees.
